Indigo Spirit bookstore to open on Granville after closure of Chapters on Robson

Vancouver lost a popular meeting spot when the Chapters at Robson and Howe streets closed in June.

Now Indigo Books & Music Inc. has announced plans to open a new bookstore in downtown Vancouver.

Coming in mid-November, the Indigo Spirit store will be located at 816 Granville Street, at Robson Street; sell books, gifts, and paper; and be one-tenth the size of the shuttered Chapters.

"We at Indigo are thrilled to be back in downtown Vancouver, offering both our new and existing customers the best in books, gifts and paper, in perfect time for holiday gift giving," Heather Reisman, Indigo founder and CEO, stated in a news release on August 25.

Indigo says it is still hoping to open a new "large format store" in the downtown core.

The Toronto-based company owns stores under the Chapters, Indigo, Coles, Indigo Spirit, SmithBooks, and The Book Company brands.
